Performance Pathway

The County Academy provides training for athletes aged approximately 14-16 years. Oxfordshire Netball manages and delivers the County Academy on behalf of England Netball, delivering 30 sessions per year. Qualified and experience Level 2 Coaches deliver the training programme set by England Netball, providing athletes with the support and skill set they need to progress to the next level of the Pathway, the Regional Academy.

Athletes in a County Academy should be accessing between 14-16 hours a week of training and competition, both in netball and other invasion sports. Strength and Conditioning work is also important for this level and age group of athletes, to ensure that muscles are developed properly, to prevent injury and to prepare them for a greater intensity of training as they progress their netball careers.

The Satellite Academy is the first step on the England Pathway, for young netballers aged approximately 11-14 years old. Oxfordshire Netball manage and deliver the Satellite Academies on behalf of England Netball, delivering about 15-22 sessions per year. Oxfordshire have 2 Satellite groups, Satellite 1 who receive 50 hours of coaching and Satellite 2 who receive 31 hours. Athletes in Satellite 2 are working towards the next level which is Satellite 1 and Satellite 1 working towards the next level which is County Academy.

Qualified and experience Level 2 Coaches deliver the training programmes set by England Netball. The emphasis in the Satellite Academy is for young netballers to learn how to train on their own, and to understand experience and practice some of the different components required in a training programme.

Both County and Satellite Programmes run from Sept to May each year.

Trials will be held around May-June of each year for Satellite and County Academies via a tournament held at a venue to be confirmed. Girls should be nominated and put forward by their club or school. However if a school or club wish to have an athlete screened at any other time during the year they can do so by contacting the Lead Performance Coach, Maggie Fisher.

U12 Developmentprovides training for athletes aged U12 years. Oxfordshire Netball manages and delivers this. This is not part of the England Performance Pathway. We deliver 18 hours of coaching per year. At the end of this we would expect these athletes to trial for Satellite the following year.

Trials for U12 Development are held each year in November/December ready for the sessions to start in the January and finishing in the May to follow into trials for following season. Communication will be sent out a few weeks before trials to all clubs and schools for them to nominate athletes for the programme.
